Feed The Need

The Rugby Grille partners with Feed the Need to provide meals at the Baldwin Center in Pontiac.

In 2009, good friend and former Michigander, Mickey Bakst created an organization called Feed The Need. He read in the newspaper that a local soup kitchen was planning to close one day a week in response to budgetary shortfalls due to the economic crises. Mickey, General Manager of The Charleston Grill, reached out to the local culinary community and put together a coalition of 52 restaurants to each commit one day per year of food service to a local nonprofit.

Last year, Mickey reached out to his native Detroit area to spread the message and the mission. The generous spirit of the Detroit restaurant community responded predictably, and Feed The Need came to fruition locally. The Rugby Grille was consequently privileged to meet the wonderful people at the Baldwin Center in downtown Pontiac. We were so moved by their commitment to service and giving that we volunteered to spend four days each year helping their cause. in need of warm socks, shoes and winter weather items. I strongly urge you to go to their website and look at the scope of services this amazing humanitarian center provides. Making a donation or volunteering your time will enrich your life, while easing the needs of others.  http://baldwincenter.org/blog/
