West Bloomfield Jewish Community CenterWill Present "I Believe: A Shoah Requiem"

In honor of Yom HaShoah
(Holocaust Memorial Day), the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit
will host a community-wide program, featuring a film presentation of “I
Believe: A Shoah Requiem,” at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 27.

There is no charge for
this event, which will be held at The Berman Center for the Performing Arts,
6600 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield.

“I Believe,” an a cappella
cantata, was composed by Cantor Daniel Gross of Adat Shalom Synagogue and
features 150 choral voices. The film version was recorded last year at the
Orchestra Hall, where “I Believe” had its world premiere.

Cantor Gross, whose “I
Believe” includes traditional prayers and writings by poet Paul Celan and
author Primo Levi, will attend the JCC event and offer comments following the
film.

Cantor Gross said he wrote “I Believe” as a response to the lack of musical liturgy that
honors Yom HaShoah.
