Experience Ireland this Summer with AFS (High School Students)

Western Ireland is the setting for an educational trip of a lifetime for Michigan high school students this July. From July 12 to July 27, 2014, AFS-USA, Inc. will sponsor an immersive learning experience for students age 15 to 18. Travelers will explore the castles and countryside of western Ireland, immerse in rich Irish history, arts, crafts and music with peers from other parts of the world. Spots remain for interested students to join the program.

“Students travelling to Ireland this summer will experience a real-time education that promises to take them out of the history books, right into the life of modern Ireland, with its unique personality and fabled history,” said Ann Steglich, lead volunteer of the Metro Detroit Chapter of AFS-USA, Inc. “What a wonderful cultural adventure for teenagers to experience a completely different part of the world, one that they may only dream of visiting in a lifetime.”

Fully supervised and organized by AFS-USA, Inc. personnel, with a diverse something-for-everyone itinerary, the Ireland 2014 AFS Summer Trip will expose students to surfing, kayaking, cliff jumping as well as art, music and historical experiences and is ideal for the internationally-minded student who wishes to learn through experience the cultural wonders of the world.

At $3804., which includes all expenses including airfare and medical insurance, this experience is economical, too. Students are responsible only for the cost of securing a passport and a modest, family-determined souvenir budget.  Scholarships are available for qualified applicants.

“This is a great opportunity because students can bring friends or siblings to share the experience. What could be a better way to spend summer break than learning about another country and experiencing the culture of its people firsthand?” asked Steglich.
