(MELVINDALE, MI) – Fighting AIDS with Nutrition (FAWN) is proud to present a Motown Holiday Benefit Extravaganza on World AIDS Day, Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Christian Assembly on 25201 West Outer Drive in Melvindale. Proceeds from the concert will be used to send liquid nutrition to AIDS victims in Africa.
This concert is vital for more than one reason, according to Ron Hinrichs, the executive director of FAWN.
"It is critical that we get the word out about providing nutrition to people who are suffering with AIDS in Africa. With the addition of nutritional supplements in their diets, AIDS patients can live a longer, healthier and more prosperous life," said Hinrichs. "The AIDS virus is killing their body and this concert will ultimately help to provide sustenance and vitamins for our friends in Africa."
The benefit extravaganza will feature The Motown Experience, a world-class vocal group assembled from former members of the Contours, the Miracles and the Temptations, plus as special guest The Shades of Blue. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online, via phone or in person.
The Contours were an early African-American soul group best known for the Billboard Top 10 hit "Do You Love Me." The Miracles, an R&B group founded by Smokey Robinson, had many top Motown hits. The Temptations were a popular vocal group known for their achievements in the ‘60s and ‘70s and their five-decade career. The Shades of Blue, a soul vocal group from Livonia, is best known for the 1966 hit "Oh How Happy."
FAWN, a nonprofit organization that combats AIDS by providing liquid nutrition to patients suffering from the virus, has sent nearly 140,000 cans to Botswana and South Africa since 2001.
“The one thing they kept saying is send more, send more, so I can live,” said FAWN’s founder, the Rev. Frank Julian, who is known as “Pastor Frank.” He has been to Africa five times in the last eleven years and has been working diligently to continue to provide Boost and Ensure for patients in Africa infected with the virus.
Ensure and Boost are nutritional supplements that strengthen the immune system, reduce effects of the AIDS virus, and improve the quantity and quality of life.
