THE AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES STOMP OUT DIABETES, PRESENTED BY MEIJER AND NOVO NORDISK, A WINE TASTING BENEFIT NOV. 15

Proceeds Support Much-Needed Diabetes Research in Michigan

The American Diabetes Association announces its sixth-annual wine tasting fundraiser – Stomp Out Diabetes – that will take place at The Reserve at Big Rock in Birmingham at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.

Stomp Out Diabetes, presented by Meijer and Novo Nordisk and chaired by Lori and Marc Siegel and Lori and Maurice Pogoda, will raise awareness and funds for the Southeast Michigan chapter of the American Diabetes Association.

  • Nearly 25.8 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes, yet more 6 million remain undiagnosed

  • An additional 79 million are at risk for developing diabetes

  • Diabetes kills more people in the United States than breast cancer and AIDS combined, and it has no cure

“Stomp Out Diabetes is a dynamic event that has raised more than $250,000 for local and national diabetes research and programs,” says Mary Riegle, special events director at the American Diabetes Association’s Southeast Michigan office. “Through this event, we hope to inform people of the consequences of diabetes, avenues for prevention, and the need for a cure.”

In addition to fabulous wine sampling and delicious food at Stomp Out Diabetes, guests will enjoy a silent auction and entertainment provided by legendary Motown guitarist Dennis Coffey. Glen McIntosh, Dean of Student Life and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Oakland University (Rochester, MI), is the evening’s guest speaker.  The VIP reception, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will feature a special opportunity to taste rare exclusive wines from Cana Wine Distributors, Red Wagon Wine Shop, and Woodbury Wines, LLC, and fine cuisine catered by the Reserve at Big Rock.

Event tickets are $150 per person, or $275 for VIP. Tickets may be purchased at www.diabetes.org/stompout or by calling Nikki Ruddy at 888-342-2383, ext. 6688 or emailing at nruddy@diabetes.org.
