Trott Gaining Support in 11th District Race

Fifty Republicans, including state legislators, county commissioners, county party chairs and grassroots activists, endorsed the Birmingham attorney's attempt to unseat U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio.

Dave Trott may have only announced his candidacy for Michigan's 11th Congressional District two weeks ago, but the Birmingham attorney appears to be having little trouble mustering support.

Trott's campaign announced endorsements from 50 Republicans from throughout the district this week, including sitting and former elected officials, grass-roots activists and other prominent Republicans.

“I’m proud to receive the endorsements of so many leaders that share my belief in cutting spending, lowering taxes and promoting the free enterprise system.  The campaign will grow as I continue to talk with voters around the district,” he said in a written statement.

Among the prominent supporters on the list are State Reps. Kurt Heise and Hugh Crawford, and Oakland County commissioners Kathy Crawford, Bill Dwyer and Shelley Taub. Visit Trott's campaign website to view the entire list

"Dave Trott is a leader that has a successful record in the private sector and can carry that record to Washington, D.C.," Heise said in a news release. "Dave has a no-nonsense attitude and the real world experience necessary to get the job done."

Trott announced earlier this month that he would challenge freshman Congressman Kerry Bentivolio in the sprawling 11th District, which stretches from Wayne and Livingston counties into Oakland County.

The announcement came just days after the first poll about the race showed the incumbent with nearly a 20 percentage-point lead over Trott.

Staying true to his earlier remarks about remaining focused on his job and the matters of the day rather than campaigning, Bentivolio did not make any announcements pertaining to the 2014 race on on his website, or the official Facebook or campaign Facebook pages this week. He did, however, weigh in heavily on defunding Obamacare, expressed condolences for the victims of Monday's Navy yard shooting, and encouraged celebrating Constitution Day.
