Seaholm High School Teacher Running For State House

Scott I. Craig, a history and political science teacher at Birmingham Seaholm and president of the Northville Democratic Club, will face State Rep. Kurt Heise (R-Plymouth) next year.

Scott I. Craig, a veteran history and political science teacher at Birmingham Seaholm High School will challenge incumbent State Rep. Kurt Heise, R-Plymouth, in next year's race for the 20th district seat in the Michigan House of Representatives that covers Northville.

An email from the Northville Democratic Club (NDC) last week indicated Craig filed for the position to represent residents in the City of Northville, Northville Township, the City of Plymouth, Plymouth Township and the eastern area of Canton Township. 

Craig, a trustee on the Northville Board of Education, is the president of the NDC and has been for about seven years. He has served on the Northville school board since 2011. Read more about him.

Craig has been a Northville resident for almost 10 years.

Education background
Graduated from Wayne State University, where he received his master's degree in history. He also taught in the Czech Republic as a Fulbright Scholar.

Other professional experience
Craig has been an educator for more than 25 years. He teaches history and political science at Seaholm High School. Craig was also formerly a social worker at a teen runaway shelter called the Detroit Transit Alternative. 

First elected in 2010, Heise was re-elected last year for a two-year term. He is a trustee on the Plymouth-Canton Educational Foundation, serves on the board of directors for Friends of the Rouge and formerly served as chairman of the Rouge River Action Plan Advisory Council. Read more about him.
