What Will You Find at This Sunday's Harvest Festival?

With September comes the beginning of the fall harvests, and the Birmingham Farmers Market is celebrating that tiime of year with the , taking place this Sunday.

"We hold this festival in September because it celebrates everything we've worked toward the entire year: incredible bounty," said Market Master Richard "Cousin Dob" Hobson. "You won't find a more diverse selection of the area's freshest, locally-grown produce than right here in Birmingham at our Harvest Festival."

What can you expect to find this year at the Harvest Festival? Plenty of farm animals, fresh fruits and vegetablees and farm equipment, all of which is used to teach attendees about the evolution of farming.

• Farm animals from Bowers School Farm, including rabbitts, baby animals, a milking goat, a pony and sheep.
• One local farmers is even brining his pet steer, Martin.
• A live sheep-shearing demonstration from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. from Sy Caryl, one of the top 10 sheep-shearers in the nation.
• Live entertainment
• Antique farm tools and machinery
• And old-fashioned corn shelter.
• Kids can visit the Kids Zone for a free straw hat craft.

The Birmingham Farmers Market takes place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. every Sunday  through Oct. 28. The market is located in Parking Lot No. 6, off North Old Woodward across the street from Luxe Bar and Grill and Salvatore Scallopini. Every week, the Farmers Market has food vendors, live music and children's craft area as well as more than 70 booths from area farmers and vendors.
