The Birmingham Public Schools district is facing tough choices next year. Even before Gov. Rick Snyder presented his 2011-12 budget plan, the district projected a $5.3 million deficit for next year. Now, that deficit could reach around $7.7 million. As part of her department's plan to tackle the deficit, Debbie Piesz, assistant superintendent for business services, presented a . That plan included eliminating transfers to the capital projects fund and reviewing discretionary expenditures for staff overtime, supplies and energy management.
