Weekend Weather: In Birmingham, Prepare for Busy Weekend Outside, 'Super Moon'

With plenty to do outside in Birmingham this weekend, the weather forecast is showing partly sunny days and mild temperatures. Plus, make sure to check out the 'Super Moon' rising this Saturday night.

If the recent spate of thunderstorms and rain have been bumming you out, don't fret: sunnier days are ahead.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 66 degrees. There will be wind gusts up to 22 miles per hour, but that should serve to cool down the runners participating in the at , beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Saturday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 47 degrees. If you can, grab a jacket and dash outside to check out the "Super Moon," which is expected to make an appearance Saturday night.

During a "Super Moon," the moon appears especially large because the moment when the moon is closest to Earth (the perigree) coincides with a perfectly full moon. Last year's Super Moon occured on March 19.

At 11:34 p.m. ET Saturday, the moon will reach full moon status. One minute later, at 11:35 p.m., “perigee” will occur. The best time to photograph the Super Moon, experts say, is at “moonrise.” Moonrise Saturday will take place at 7:55 p.m.

Sunday night, there's a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms with a low around 51 degrees. Looking ahead to Monday, thunderstorms could again make an appearance, with a 50 percent chance of rain. High temperatures will hit 64 degrees.
