Weekend Spotlight: 2011 Jingle Bell Run/Walk

What's going on this weekend around Birmingham? Patch wants to tell you!

It's Wednesday which means most of you are halfway through the work and school week. Because we know that sometimes making planning decisions for the weekend can get overwhelming, we are here to help.

So far this week, we've discussed:

  •

Our pick for today:

Find out what's happening in Birminghamwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • Where:
  • When: 9 a.m. Saturday
  • Cost: $27.50 for 5K or 10K; Snowman Shuffle $10
  • Why Go: Join Red Wing Jimmy Howard and local honoree, Taylor Gray, at the Jingle Bell Run/Walk, a festive holiday walks for a good cause. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in holiday-themed costumes — such as Santa, elves or reindeer — and tie jingle bells to their shoelaces. The whole family can get involved with either the 5k, 10k, or Snowman Shuffle (a quarter-mile fun run for kids 12 and under). The biggest team, biggest fundraisers, and most inventive costume will receive prizes including signed Red Wings memorabilia. Funds raised from the walk will be used to fight arthritis, the nation's most common cause of disability.
