Weekend Planner: Nightnotes Concert, Basketball Blast

   When: 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday
   Why Go: Bill Grogan's Goat, the Detroit Celtic band known for mixing Detroit rock with traditional Celtic melodies, will be playing songs from its second album, Second Wind, Friday night at Dick O'Dow's.
2. 
   Where:
   When: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday
   Why Go: Journey back to the early 1940’s and enjoy the only Neil Simon play to win both the Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award. Designated by the New York Post as “The best play Simon ever wrote,” this production brings together laughter and tears as the audience explores the trials and tribulations of a family in Yonkers, New York. Tickets are $17 each.

   Where:
   When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
   Why Go: The latest installment of Roeper's Diversity/Amnesty Film Festival features the 2010 historical documentary Freedom Riders. Produced for the PBS American Experience and based on the book Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice, the film chronicles the civil rights activists who fought racial segregation on American buses and trains in the early 20th century.

   When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
   Why Go: Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit and Young Ensemble-in-Residence, Amusia, will perform as part of Hagopian's Nightnotes concert series. Adults tickets are $22 while student tickets are $10.

   Where:
   When: 1 p.m. Saturday
   Why Go: The Groves boys baskebtall boosters will be sponsoring the second annual Groves Basketball Blast this weekend, featuring clinics for boys and girls from third through eighth grades. The event will be run by Groves basketball coaches and players. Registration is $40 ahead of time and $50 for walk-ins.
