Weekend Planner: Movie in Booth Park, Concert at the Museum

  • Why Go: Catch a movie in the park this weekend as Kung Fu Panda 2 comes to an outdoor screen in Booth Park. Grab a blanket, grab a snack or bring some cash to buy some cotton candy from the snack truck.

  • Why Go: The sounds of 20th century Detroit will come alive Sunday with a performance of Planet D Nonet at the Birmingham Historical Museum and Park. The band, which plays a combination of early swing, R&B and jump blues, will perform the program "Paradise Walk," which highlights Detroit's musical evolution. The event is co-sponsored by the and partly funded by the Michigan Counsil for Arts and Cultural Affairs/Michigan Humanities Council.

  • Why Go: You and your family will love Pippi, the red-haired hoyden of children's book fame in the Village Players' Youth Theatre's production of Pippi Longstocking. The musical is full of whimsy and imagination, sure to bring smiles to your family's faces.

  • Why Go: In addition to the fresh and healthy food always found at the Birmingham Farmers Market, residents will find even more ways to boost their health this weekend during the market's annual Health and Fitness Day. While the market is open, enjoy cooking demonstrations, chair massages, blood pressure screenings, posture checks, complimentary dental checks and more.

  • Where: Torry Community (neighborhood north of 14 Mile, east of Adams, south of Hazel and west of Eton)

  • Why Go: Looking for a few good garage sales this weekend? Birmingham's Torry Community Association (TCA) will host its annual neighborhood garage and yard sale this weekend. Residents from the neighborhood are welcome to participate while all of Birmingham is welcome to shop.
