Weekend Planner: Garden Stroll, Virtual Rummage Sale

Also happening this weekend in Birmingham: the Birmingham Club Championship will be at Lincoln Hills and Springdale golf courses and Christ Church Cranbrook will host a carillon concert.

It’s Friday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend.  Patch has the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time.

  • When: 6-9 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Cranbrook Gardens (380 Lone Pine Rd., in Bloomfield Hills)
  • Cost: $20
  • Why Go: Stop by the Cranbrook Gardens this Friday for a peaceful stroll at dusk, hosted by the Thistle Shop at Cranbrook House and Gardens. The evening includes wine and hor d'oeuvres, access to the Thistle Shop — a former outdoor art studio and now home to an assortment of Michigan art pieces — Cranbrook's Sunken Garden and greenhouse. Tickets may be purchased at www.housegardens.cranbrook.edu, by calling 248-645-3149 at the Cranbrook Auxillary office.

  • When: Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday
  • Where: ,
  • Cost: $60 walking, $80 riding
  • Why Go: Birmingham's two golf courses will be hosting their annual club championship this weekend, featuring 36 holes of golf, lunch both days, an optional skins games and prizes for those closest to the pin. There will be three divisions for both men and women, including a championship division, senior championship division and a net division.

  • When: 5 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Christ Church Cranbrook (470 Church Rd. in Bloomfield Hills)
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Enjoy the sounds of the carillon at Bloomfield Hills' Christ Church Cranbrook, with their summer carillon concert series. A docent-led tour of the church, including refreshments, begins at 4 p.m. A video produced by the Taylor bell foundry in Loughborough, England will also be playing in the sanctuary prior to each 5 p.m. performance. Meanwhile, concert-goers can check out the carillon and playing chamber for themselves this Sunday only.

  • Where: 4456 Arlington Drive, Royal Oak
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Head just south of Birmingham's 14 Mile border to chek out this Royal Oak garage sale. Up for sale will be: a full patio set with umbrella, an oak platform bed frame (no mattress), two large bird cages, flower pots and several other household items. 

  • When: Friday-Sunday
  • Where: Stone Haven Free Methodist Church (in Troy) and at http://www.stonehavenfmc.org/wordpress.
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Troy's Stone Haven Free Methodist Church is holding a virtual rummage sale this weekend at http://www.stonehavenfmc.org/wordpress. Up for sale is: building supplies, chairs, computer desks, drop-ceiling vents, a file cabinet, firewood, furniture, heater, molding, office supplies, a swimming pool and wood.
