Weekend Planner: Hat Fashion Show, Veterans Day Ceremony

Also this weekend, have your antiques appraised by local experts at the Birmingham Area Seniors Center, then head over to the Midvale Mom 2 Mom sale at Berkshire.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend. Birmingham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time.

Benefit: Daughters of Penelope Hat Fashion Show

  • When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Townsend Hotel
  • Cost: $45
  • Why Go: The Daughters of Penelope is hosting a luncheon, hat fashion show and benefit for C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. Guests are asked to bring a children's hat, any style or size. Local hat designer Luke Song, meanwhile, will host a hat fashion show.

Sale: Fall Book Sale

  • When: 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday; Noon-4 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: Baldwin Public Library (in the basement)
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: The Friends of the Baldwin Public Library will host their biannual book sale this weekend, with more than 10,000 books, CDs, DVDs and video games up for sale. Everything is half off Sunday while the sale continues into Monday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., for bag day. All proceeds go to the Friends, which funds special events for the library all year round.

Veterans: Wreath-Laying Ceremony

  • When: 10 a.m. Sunday
  • Where: Shain Park
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Honor Birmingham's military heroes during the 2012 Veteran's Day wreath-laying ceremony in Shain Park. The event is co-sponsored by the city of Birmingham and Daughters of the American Revolution Piety Hill chapter.

Antiques: What's It Worth?

  • When: 10 a.m.4 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Birmingham Area Seniors Center
  • Cost: $6 for one item; $15 for three items
  • Why Go: Ever wondered how much that old necklace was worth? Then, you'll want to head to the Birmingham Are Seniors Center for What It's Worth?, an appraisal-buy event. Antique dealer and jewelry expert Gary Wachler from Wachler Estate Collectio, as well as antique appraiser Joe Del Giudice of Del Giudice Antiques and Estate Jewelry will be on hand to appraise your antiques. Walk-ins are welcome though appointments are preferred.

Sale: Mom 2 Mom Sale

  • When: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Berkshire Middle School
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Looking for some new toys or cold-weather clothes for your kids this fall? Birmingham's Midvale Early Childhood Center is hosting a Mom 2 Mom sale this weekend at the Berkshire cafeteria. If you're interesting renting a table, contact Nicole at ECCMom2Mom@outlook.com.
