Weekend Planner: Farmers Market Opens, Dash for Destiny

Also highlighting this weekend is a 5K sponsored by the Berkshire Proud Dads Club, as well as a performance by Berkshire Middle School theater students.

  • Why Go: The Birmingham Farmers Market returns for its 10th season this weekend with more than 70 vendors selling everything from locally-grown produce to homemade baked goods and flowers. For more information, visit ­www.­birmi­nghamfarme­rsmarket.­org.

  • When: 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 3 p.m. Sunday

  • Cost: $8 in advance; $10 at the door
  • Why Go: Berkshire Middle School presents this almost non-stop show full of song and dance, telling the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island.

  • Cost: $10 for kids, $15 for youths and $30 for adults
  • Why Go: Come out and race for a good cause this Sunday at the 's fourth annual Dash for Destiny. The morning includes a 5K and a one-mile fun run for children. Proceeds go to children's health and wellness programs in Oakland County. Registration begins at 7 a.m. in Shain Park while the race begins at 9 a.m.

  • Cost: $15, $20 and $25 (depending on registration date)
  • Why Go: Get ready to run a scenic 5K course all the while raising money for a good cause. The Berkshire Middle School Proud Dads club will be hosting their annual 5K Saturday, starting and finishing in front of the school. All proceeds will go toward the Berkshire Proud Dads Club' basketball project.   • Where:
  • Cost: $20 ($15 before May 3)
  • Why Go: The Community House Dance Academy will be holding their annual student recital this Saturday. Performances will include ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary dance and more.
