Weekend Planner: Cultural Arts Awards, 9/11 Dedication

    When:
    6-8 p.m. Friday
    Why Go:
    The Birmingham Bloomfield Arts Center will be honoring Maury Okun and Judy Adelman at the 16th annual cultural arts awards. The event also opens the Annual Exhibition of Birmingham Society of Women Painters.

  2. Where:
    Birmingham Masonic Temple at 37357 Woodward Ave. in Bloomfield Hills
    When:
    Friday-Sunday
    Why Go:
    The American Association of University Women will be holding their annual book sale this weekend. Most books sell for $1-$3, with special collectors' editions sold separately.

  3. Where:

    When:
    11 a.m. Sunday
    Why Go:
    The city of Birmingham will host a Sept. 11 remembrance and dedication ceremony as it unveils and formally dedicates a steel remnant from the World Trade Center. The fire station will remain open until noon for the public to view the new memorial.

  4. Where:

    When: 10:30 a.m. Saturday
    Why Go: Join the Baldwin Public Library's Youth Services as they observe the National Day of Service and Remembrance. Baldwin librarians will share patriotic stories and songs about the importance of working together. Children will make a remember flag for display in the Library's Youth Room and will be able to take home a special craft.

  5. Where:

    When: 7 p.m. Friday
    Why Go: The big game this week will be at Seaholm as the Maples football team prepares to take on their next-door neighbors from Lahser. Both teams are 2-0 in the Oakland Activities Association Blue Division.
