Weekend Planner: Clawson Car Show, Birmingham Corn Festival

  • Why Go: Get ready for Birmingham's third annual corn festival this weekend, featuring one of Michigan's sweetest harvest vegetables. The morning will include a petting farm, corn shelling, a children’s corn kernel pool, and a children’s craft area provided by Happy Dino Playcare. Samples of locally made corn-related products will be available throughout the event, including roasted sweet corn, popcorn, caramel corn, kettle corn, corn chips and corn bread.

  • Why Go: Birmingham presents its last movie-in-the-park of the summer, with a showing of Cars 2 in Booth Park. Festivities — including live bands, local vendor and games for the kids — begin at 7:30 p.m. while the movie begins at dusk.

  • Where: Starr Jaycee Park (in Royal Oak)
  • Cost: $20
  • Why Go: The 12th annual Shakespeare in the Park series is going on right now, and this is the last weekend for the group's performance of Henry V. Directed by Sara Catheryn Wolf, the play stars Michael Brian Ogden as Henry in the classic tale as a young king who must prove himself to his subjects.

  • When: 8 p.m. Saturday (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
  • Where: Meadow Brook Music Festival
  • Cost: $24.50 for pavillion seats; $17.50 for lawn seats
  • Why Go: Enjoy the sounds of lyricist and composer Neil Berg as he recreates the music from the past 100 years of Broadway. Berg is currently the composer for the new Broadway-bound musical "Grumpy Old Men," based on the Warner Brothers movie classic. For more information, visit www.neilberg.com.

  • Where: Downtown Clawson
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: Check out some local hotrods before the Woodward Dream Cruise officially kicks off with Clawson's Down on Main Street Car Show. On display will be antique cars, street rods, muscle cars, trucks, boats, choppers and more.
