Also headlining this weekend in Birmingham is a performance by the bugs Beddow Band at Edison's.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend. Birmingham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time.

  1. Where:

    When: 9 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Once this five-piece funk, rhythm and blues band takes the stage alongside bugs Beddow — called the "T-Rex of the T-bone" — you'll be dancing until 1 a.m. The bugs Beddow Band was a 2011 Detroit Music Awards nominee for Outstanding Rhythm & Blues Band and has performed with artists from Blood, Sweat and Tears to Eddie Money.

  2. Where:
    Kirk in the Hills
    When: 8 p.m. Saturday
Why go: The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform at Kirk in the Hills as part of its Neighborhood Concert Series. Leonard Slatkin will lead the orchestra as it performs Mozart's Overture to Marriage of Figaro, Aaron Copland's evocative story of American pioneeers, Applachian Spring, and Brahms' First Serenade.

  3. Where:

    When: 2 p.m. Saturday
Why go: The Lido Gallery will host a release party for Mary Minock's newest book, The Way-Back Room: A Memoir of a Detroit Childhood. Author Rebecca Rank, as well as other area poets, will be present at the party.

  4. Where:

    When: 6 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. Saturday
Why go: Those who want to try out for the Sara Smith Youth Theater's production of School of Rock are invited to try out this weekend at The Community House. Auditioners should plan on learning a one-minute monologue, singing 16 bars of a favorite song and learning a short dance routine. Auditions are first-come, first-served.

  5. Where:

    When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Why go: As part of its Chamber Music Concert Series, the Bloomfield Township Public Library will host a performance of The Rite of Spring for Piano Four Hands by Igor Stravinsky, selections from Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin by Johann Sebastian Bach as well as Romanze, Op. 85 by Max Bruch.
