Weekend Planner: Bike Festival, iMatter's Family Fun Day

Also happening this weekend is the first varsity football game of the season for the Groves High School Falcons.

  • Where: Downtown Birmingham; events in Shain Park
  • Cost: Free to attend. Registration fees range from $10-$45
  • Why Go: Now in its second year downtown, the Birmingham Bike Festival returns with more races, a live entertainment schedule and even more ways to give back. New this year are the municipal workers race and Miles4Miles, a parade-style race benefitting the Miles Levin Pediatric Hospital Fund at Beaumont's Children's Hospital. For more information, visit .

Football: Groves first varsity game

  • When: 7 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Hurley Field (3205 Catalpa Dr. in Berkley)
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: The Groves High School varsity football team takes to the field for the first time of the 2012 season Friday, battling Berkley on their home turf. If you're a Seaholm fan, the Maples take on Ferndale at home Thursday.

  • Why Go: iMatter for Kids, a Birmingham-based nonprofit and after school program at , will be hosting a family fun day in Barnum Park this weekend. Activities include: a magician, face painting, live music from Axis Music musicians, a bounce house, games, raffles, prizes as well as local food and ice cream. Concert: GetBack!

  • When: 8 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Meadow Brook Music Theatre (3554 East Walton Blvd. in Rochester Hills)
  • Cost: $24.50 for reserved pavillion seats; $15 for general admission seats; $79 for family four-packs
  • Why Go: GetBack!, the Broadway and London cast of Beatlemania will be performing this weekend at Meadowbrook. Step back in time and rock out to your Beatles favorites for a variety of ticket prices.

Football: Lahser and Andover's last football game

  • When: 7 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Lahser High School (3456 Lahser Rd. in Bloomfield Hills)
  • Cost: Free
  • Why Go: If there are any Lahser or Andover graduates living in Birmingham, you'll definitely want to check out the final football game between the two rival Bloomfield Hills high schools before they're merged next year. The game, dubbed the "Battle of the Swords," kicks off at 7 p.m.
