Weekend Planner: Holiday Bazaar, Jingle Bell Run

Also headlining this weekend is a Panera Family Fun Day and poetry readings at the Lido Gallery.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend. Birmingham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time.


  1. Where:

    When: 7-9 p.m. Friday
    Why Go: Lido Gallery and Springfed Arts continue their poetry and music series with a performance from acoustic guitar veteran and songwriter Jan Krist. Poets Ama Carey Barr, AnneDoran, Ginny Grush, Lucija Franetovic and Elaine Walker will also perform ten minute poetry readings in the intimate laid back setting of the Gallery.

  2. Where:
    Cranbrook
    When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday
    Why Go: Visit the Cranbrook House and Gardens 36th annual Holiday Tables event to get ideas and inspiration on how to dress your own holiday table. There will be more than a dozen tables decorated in a variety of style, as well as the chance to listen to up to four guest speakers in a seminar-style presentation. The Thistle Shop, a special holiday boutique, will also be open during the event.

  3. Where:

    When: 9 a.m. Saturday
    Why Go: Join Red Wing Jimmy Howard and local honoree Taylor Gray at the Jingle Bell Run/Walk, a festive holiday walk for a good cause. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in holiday-themed costumes — such as Santa, elves or reindeer — and tie jingle bells to their shoelaces. The whole family can get involved with either the 5k, 10k, or Snowman Shuffle (a quarter-mile fun run for kids 12 and under). The biggest team, biggest fundraisers, and most inventive costume will receive prizes including signed Red Wings memorabilia.

  4. Where:

    When: 9 a.m. Saturday
    Why Go: Our Shepherd's Holiday Bazaar features unique gifts from the region's artists and crafters, plus gift-wrapping, holiday carolers and a bake sale. All proceeds will be benefit Our Shepherd's 8th grade class trip to Chicago.

  5. Where:

    When: 11 a.m. Saturday
    Why Go: Panera invites families and children of all ages to come out for Family Fun Day, featuring ornament-making, cookie decorating and holiday story readings. To donate to the , just mention them at the cash register and 10 percent of your sale will go to the local organization.
