UPDATE: Snow Over for Now; More on the Way Friday
Around an inch of snow fell in Birmingham this morning; an additional 1-5 inches are predicted Friday and Saturday, the National Weather Service says.
Snow has returned to Michigan, and some areas could receive up to six inches of snowfall by Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.
Much of Metro Detroit saw measurable snowfall Thursday morning; Birmingham received about an inch before the snowfall tapered off just after noon.
Friday, another cold front will make its way to the area, bringing with it another 1-5 inches of additional snowfall beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service predicts snowfall totals will be highest south of the Interstate-69 corridor, though "total accumulations are still a little uncertain."
In a special weather statement, the weather service also warned that pockets of heavier snow could reduce visibility and advised residents to allow extra time for travel "as the roads will likely be snow-covered and slick in spots."

In addition to the snow, the cold front will bring icy temperatures to southeast Michigan. A low around 9 degrees is expected tonight, and the high for Friday will only climb to about 20 degrees. Saturday will be warmer with a high near 26, and temperatures Sunday could reach 35 degrees.
