Music: Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra

• Why Go: The Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra will perform a series of chamber works in a newly intimate setting this weekend. Guest conductor John Thomas Dodson will direct the orchestra and guest soloist Amy Porter as they perform the works of J.S. Bach, Haydn and Corigliano. Porter will star on flute in Bach's Second Orchestral Suite and Corgliano's Voyage for Flute and Strings.

Film: 'Oz' Premiere

• Where: Palladium 12 Theatre
• Cost: $15-$18
• Why Go: Hundreds of Michigan actors and extras will converge on Birmingham this weekend for a special charity premiere of the Michigan-made film Oz: The Great and Powerful. All proceeds from the premiere will benefit the Coalition of Dwarf Advocacy.

Film: 'The Lost Boys of Sudan'

• When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
• Where: Roeper Upper School
• Cost: Free
• Why Go: Roeper’s Amnesty International chapter presents a documentary following two Sudanese refugees on an extraordinary journey from Africa to America. Orphaned as young boys in one of Africa’s cruelest civil wars, Peter Dut and Santino Chuor survived lion attacks and militia gunfire to reach a refugee camp in Kenya along with thousands of other children.

Food: Chilly Chili Cook-Off

• When: Noon-3 p.m. Saturday
• Where: Franklin-Bingham Firehouse (32707 Franklin Rd. in Franklin)
• Cost: $5
• Why Go: Franklin’s business district will be heating up this Saturday at the third annual Chilly Chili Cook-off. The event will feature chili tasting, local music, and a chance for the kids to see Franklin’s fire trucks up close and in person. Proceeds from the event will help Main Street Franklin.

Theater: Seaholm, Village Players

The Birmingham Village Players and Seaholm High School will enter the second weekend of their current shows, including:
