Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Birmingham

The warning expires at 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service says a severe thunderstorm may hit the Birmingham area this afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the NWS and is in effect until 6:45 p.m.

The warning affects these areas: Northville, Novi, Livonia, Salem, Canton, Milford, Whitmore Lake, Southfield and Birmingham.

Quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour have been reported "along a line extending from Novi to Whitmore Lake and moving east at 35 miles per hour," according to the NWS.

In addition, the NWS has issued a flash flood warning until 10 p.m. for eastern Oakland County.

In the next six hours, showers and thunderstorms will become more scattered until around 8 p.m. Some of the early storms could be severe but should end by late evening.

Looking ahead, temperatures should hover around 82 degrees Tuesday night with an 80 percent chance of rain.
