Save the Date: 2013 Day on the Town Set for July

The day when "the best of Birmingham is one sale" happens July 27 in downtown Birmingham.

Birmingham in the summertime is already on the minds of many after the Birmingham City Commission set the official date for the 2013 Day on the Town: Saturday, July 27.

The Day on Town, when "the best of Birmingham is on sale," is the city's annual sidewalk sale featuring wares from dozens of downtown merchants, restaurants, live music, a kids activity area and more.

This year's Day on the Town will be much like previous years, with Old Woodward shut down from Oakland to Brown, and Maple from Bates to Peabody. Parts of Merrill, Pierce, Martin and Henrietta will also be closed from 7 a.m.-11 p.m.

This year, Principal Shopping District director John Heiney said he expects between 10,000-15,000 people to fill the streets of Birmingham. The PSD is also looking to provide free parking that day at Birmingham's five parking garages and metered spots, also a holdover from last year.
