Prepare for Jazzy Nights This Summer in Birmingham

The Community House's Jazzy Nights on the Terrace kicks off this Thursday with the Johnny Trudell Quartet.

This six-week series, hosted by The Community House and WRCJ 90.9-FM, brings some of Metro Detroit's greatest jazz artists to The Community House's Van Dusen terrace for an evening of great music under the stars.

The event was spearheaded by The Community House's artistic director, Ron Kischuk, who told Detroit Performs that the concert series will be one of the strongest summer jazz lineups in Metro Detroit.

“The series showcases the legendary Johnny Trudell, internationally acclaimed artists Randy Scott & Straight Ahead, April & Dennis Tini, and Stevie Wonder’s jazz trumpet artist Dwight Adams,” Kischuk told the art and concert website. “With great food and an amazing musical atmosphere, this will be the place jazz fans want to be all summer.”

What is that lineup? The series last through Aug. 16 and features the following artists:

  • July 12: The Johnny Trudell Quartet
  • July 19: April Tini with the Dennis Tini Trio
  • July 26: Ron Kischuk and the Masters of Music Quartet (featuring Judie Cochill on vocals)
  • Aug. 2: The Randy Scott Quartet
  • Aug. 9: The Dwight Adams Quartet
  • Aug. 16: Straight Ahead

The concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m. A small plates menu and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. In case of rain, concerts will move indoors to The Community House ballroom.
