Need to Know: Easter, Good Friday Services

Birmingham churches have dozens of services planned for Holy Week.

Area churches celebrate Holy Week, including Good Friday and Easter, in a big way. Following is this year’s schedule of services across Birmingham:

  • Easter:  Mass will be at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday
  • More info:  St. Columban also holds mass Thursdays at 10 a.m. During Lent, private confession will take place at 3 p.m. at St. Alan’s Catholic Church in Troy.

  • Good Friday:  Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Birmingham campus at .
  • Easter:  Services for the Birmingham campus are scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday, as well as 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • More info:  To reserve your spot for Easter, visit www.kensingtonchurch.org to book your free ticket. Good Friday services do not require a ticket.

  • Good Friday:  Good Friday Liturgy will be at noon, while quiet meditation is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. The Stations of the Cross will be at 7 p.m.
  • Easter:  Services are scheduled for 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

  • Good Friday:  Services will be held at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Easter:  Services are set for 7 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

  • Easter:  The Easter children’s program begins at 9:30 a.m. while service is at 11 a.m. Easter Cantata will be at 6 p.m.
  • More info:  Coffee and fellowship will be at 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m., between Easter services.

  • Good Friday:  Service will be held noon-1:30 p.m. in three half-hour segments, with leadership provided by representatives from First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church.
  • Easter:  A 7 a.m. service will be led by the Rev. Carl Price, while the Rev. John E. Harnish will conduct services at 8:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Rev. Brian William will conduct a service at 5 p.m.

  • Good Friday:  Service will take place from noon-1:30 p.m. in three half-hour segments, with leadership provided by representatives from First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church.
  • Easter: Services will be held at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

  • Good Friday:  Services will be held at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Easter:  Services will be at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
  • More info:  The annual Easter egg hunt will immediately follow the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday. For more information on Maundy Thursday, visit www.redeemerbirmingham.org/.

  • Good Friday:  Prelude and music will be held 12:15-1 p.m. Liturgy of the Day, veneration and communion will be from 1-2:30 p.m, while Stations of the Cross will be from 2:30-3 p.m.
  • Easter:  Services will be held at 8 a.m., 10 am. and noon.

  • Good Friday:  Service will be held noon-1:30 p.m. in three half-hour segments, with leadership provided by representatives from First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church.
  • Easter:  Service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
  • More info:  A 9 a.m. continental breakfast will be held before Easter services while an Easter egg hunt for kids will take place during Children’s Church.
