More Rain, Flooding in Forecast Today

As Birmingham dries out this morning, the thunderstorms and rain are expected to return.

Those puddles that seem to be disappearing this morning? They're likely to return this afternoon.

Another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms that could cause flooding and gusts of wind is expected today. According to the National Weather Service, based in Pontiac, a storm coming from the Indiana area will hit this afternoon. A flood warning remains in effect until tonight.

This is after the 2 to 4 inches that fell across Oakland County on Wednesday.

Cities across the metro area reported flooded roads and creeks, as well as power outages and even water boil warnings.

There were no road closings reported in Birmingham; this morning there was only one DTE customer with spotty power and this just outside city borders..

"Do not underestimate the power of flood waters," stated a warning from the weather service. "Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle."

Here's a look at what's to come, according to forecasts:

  • Today: Scattered showers, then periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. 
  • Tonight: Showers likely, with gusts as high as 20 mph. 
  • Friday: A 40 percent chance of more showers.
  • Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. 
  • Sunday: Partly sunny.
  • Monday, Memorial Day: Mostly sunny (with a high near 88.)
