Keep Busy Over Winter Break at Baldwin Public Library

From a puppet show to 'The Secret World of Arrietty,' Baldwin Public Library has plenty of activities for kids of all ages this holiday break.

While the Christmas holidays will keep you busy both today and tomorrow, you may be wondering: what is there to do with the kids after Christmas but before they go back to school?

The Baldwin Public Library is closed today and tomorrow, though Birmingham librarians have a slate of winter activities lined up for kids of all ages, all themed "It's a Small, Small World." 

Thursday, Dec. 27: "Dick Wittington & His Cat" (2 p.m.)

Come see an original puppet presentation by "Once Upon a Puppet" with Nancy Penvose. This program is for all ages and tickets are available in the library youth room. The production is based on a traditional English fairytale and follows Dicks and his cat as they travel to London to seek their fortune.

Thursday, Dec. 27: The Hunger Games (6 p.m.)

Teens are welcome to the library media room for a special showing of The Hunger Games.

Friday, Dec. 28: "The Elves & the Shoemaker and Other Tiny Tales" (10:30 a.m.)

Listen to age-old stories starring clever characters that live in a miniature world during this family story time.

Saturday, Dec. 29: The Secret World of Arrietty (2 p.m.)

Find a seat at a viewing of The Secret World of Arrietty, the 2010 film by Disney. Watch the adventures of the four-inch tall Arietty and her family of borrowers in this G-rated film.

Plus, through Jan. 2, a craft activity center will be set up in the library youth room. Make a minuature room for storytelling fun! There is no need to register and all materials are provided.
