House Hunt: Smart Home Shoppers Do The Math

Price per square foot varies from area to area, and is a factor to consider when home shopping.

This week we've found twelve homes in Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield, Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills that are priced under $315,000, with most well under $300,000. What's interesting about these homes is how much the price per square foot varies. Obviously the condition and the age of the home affect price per square foot, but it also varies widely depending on its location. The twelve homes here range from a low of about $74 per square foot in West Bloomfield to a high of about $173 per square foot in Birmingham.

Price per square foot is a factor to consider when shopping for a home, as well as the annual property taxes. Often, you'll find that areas with higher prices per square foot carry a greater tax burden as well.

We all need to get the most home for the dollar, and being aware of the many ways to compare apples to apples can help you make the best home buying decision.
