Grab & Go Family Planner: Mother-Daughter Tea, Signing Workshops and More
A mother-daughter tea, a children's art show and the Birmingham Farmer's Market opens — pick and choose from this week's array of family events.
Family best bets for the week ahead:
- Why go: It’s a way to say thank you and to celebrate all the women in your life — your mom, daughter, grandma, aunt, niece, friend or babysitter — and get dressed up and enjoy tea sandwiches, sweets, tea and punch.

Baby Signing Workshop
- Why go: Bring your baby ages 3 months to 2 years and learn American Sign Language from a language teacher from Deaf and Hearing Impaired Services, Inc.

Mom and Kids Apron
- Why go: This is a great Mother’s Day present. During Ttree sessions with your mom, learn how to read a pattern, sew with a sewing machine and make an apron.

- When: 10:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Saturdays, May 7-21
- Cost: $75

Detroit Public Schools Student Exhibition
- Why go: Your kids will be inspired to create when you look at the winning painting, sculpture, pottery, drawing and mixed media made by school kids in Detroit Public Schools, grades K-12.
- Where: Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Avenue in Detroit
- When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, April 30-June 5
- Cost: Free with museum admission, $8 adults, $4 children ages 6-17
