Arn'cha going to the Joe Nipote Comedy Slam this Saturday!?
Well, Patch isn't great at telling jokes, so if you prefer something more funny, check out the Joe Nipote Comedy Slam at the Westin Southfield this Friday.
As a benefit to the Birmingham Family YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, the event serves as a major fundraiser for helping out families in the community, with all profits going toward a special scholarship fund.
"We don’t turn families away because of their inability to pay for [our] programs," said Tony Pecoraro, Executive Director of the Birmingham YMCA. "We scholarship summer camp experiences, youth sports programs, memberships to the Y, autistic programs, seniors on fixed incomes, swim lessons and competitive team programs."
Joe Nipote, a native of Metro Detroit who was voted Hour Detroit Magazine's "2011 Best Comedian" organizes the event and selects the talent each year. This time around, Nipote himself along with Rocky LaPorte, Don Friesen and Mike Green will show the crowd a knee-slapping good time while FOX 2's Jason Carr emcees the event.
"It is a great night out and tickets are tax-deductible," said Pecoraro. "Where can you go see a professional show with four national talents in one room on the same night?"
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a cocktail reception. The Dan Rafferty Band will kick off the entertainment at 7 p.m. with music before the laughing begins. Regular tickets are $50, but $75 VIP tickets are also available. For more information and to purchase tickets, call (248) 644-9036 or visit the Birmingham Family YMCA.
So, take a night out for yourself - sit back and relax.
"We don’t laugh enough or take the time to laugh, "adds Pecoraro. "This event is the cure."
