Get Out: 'Flora' Exhibit, Mighty Horns Concert and 'Live From the Living Room'

From an exhibit at the David Klein gallery to a concert by the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, there's something for everyone this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

  1. Where:
    When: 7 p.m. Friday
    Why go: Novelist Noah Boyd is a former FBI agent and will be reading from his new romantic thriller, Agent X, the story of a Russian spy ring. Boyd will also answer questions and sign books.

  2. Where:
    When: 2-3 p.m. Sunday
    Why go: Area musicians will perform three classical works, including Mozart’s String Quartet in F Major and Bedrich Smetana’s String Quartet No. 1 in E Minor. The concert is free and open to the public.

  3. Where:
    When: 3 p.m. Sunday
    Why go: Brass players from the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, based in Southfield, will present works by Dmitri Shostakovich, William Balcom and other composers. Tickets cost $25, $22 for seniors and $10 for students. To purchase tickets, visit the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings website.

  4. Where: The Oakland Arts Center, 7 N. Saginaw St. in Pontiac
    When: 8-10:30 p.m. Friday
    Why go: Acoustic, folk and Americana musician Bob Marshall will perform songs to be included on his next CD. A music video will also be shot during the concert. Tickets cost $5 at the door.

  5. Where:
    When: 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday
    Why go: The Flora exhibit features landscape painter Brad Durham, abstract floral painter Betsy Eby and pen-and-ink artist Joan Linder.
