Get Out: Coffee and Classical Music, 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' and More

From an early Memorial Day concert to the Birmingham Farmers Market, there's something for everyone this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Birmingham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.


  1. Where:
    When: Beginning Friday through Sept. 5
    Why go: Dinosauria features more than 30 lifelike animatronic dinosaurs, making it the largest dinosaur exhibit anywhere. The exhibit is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.

  2. Where:
    When: 10:30 a.m. Friday
    Why go: Enjoy a special performancefeaturing a string quartet of musicians, along with complimentary coffee and pastries. Tickets cost $15.

  3. Where: Municipal Parking Lot 6 off North Old Woodward Avenue
    When: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday
    Why go: This event is held every weekend, and if you haven't been there yet, come check out the more than 50 vendors who have so far signed up for Birmingham's Farmers Market, selling everything from flowers to local honey to fresh produce.

  4. Where: White Chapel Cemetery in Troy
    When: 3 p.m. Sunday
    Why go: The concert will feature a medley of songs celebrating America, including The Star-Spangled Banner and the Armed Forces Salute, and will accompany the Classic Voices Chorale.

  5. Where:
    When: 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
    Why go: It's the last weekend for the Village Players' Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The comedy stage production is based on the 1988 movie of the same name.
