Farmers Market Kicks Off 2011 Season with Flowers, Music

The Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. every Sunday in the municipal parking lot off North Old Woodward Avenue.

Though there were some leftover April showers, Birmingham celebrated the 1st of May with the beginning of its season. More than 50 vendors came out for the opening day of the market, now in its ninth season, selling everything from baked goods and prepared foods to plenty of flowers.

According to "Cousin" Don Hodson, day organizer for the event, there will be more vendors of fresh fruit and vegetables later in the season.

Until then, there are dozens of flower vendors, with many stocking up for Mother's Day. Other special events at the Farmers Market this year include:

  • Health and Fitness event, June 26
