Eastbound Maple Road to Close at Adams Beginning Friday

Detour routes will be posted and a portion of the road will be left open to westbound motorists. The city has not stated when eastbound lanes will reopen.

East Maple Road will be closed to eastbound traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Friday.

According to email blast sent to Birmingham residents Thursday afternoon, the route will be closed to eastbound traffic between Adams and South Eton as part of a summer-long construction project there. Friday marks the first day of paving.

There is no indication, however, of when the road will re-open.

That stretch of road has been under construction since late spring, when the city began replacing aging water mains and sewer lines.

A portion of the road will be open to westbound traffic, and a detour route will be posted for drivers heading east out of Birmingham and into neighboring Troy. Drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route.
