The power returned to approximately 1,580 DTE customers in the Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills area Friday afternoon after a morning outage.
According to DTE representative Alejandro Bodipo-Memba, the outage was due to a cable outage at the substation at the corner of Quarton and Woodward that occured overnight.
At around 8:40 a.m., the temporary repair failed, Bodipo-Memba said, and a total of 3,500 customers lost power.
According to the DTE Outage Map, the outages were clustered north and south of Quarton and Woodward. In Birmingham, the largest outages were west of Woodward from Quarton down past Maple, while around 400 were without power east of Woodward.
In Bloomfield Hills, more than 300 homes were without power north of Quarton all the way past Lone Pine Road, on both sides of Woodward. Meanwhile, the traffic light at Quarton and Woodward was out at 9 a.m. Friday, though Birmingham police were on the scene directing traffic.
