UPDATE: Power Back On For High School, Birmingham Residents

More than 575 DTE Energy customers, including Seaholm High School, lost power this afternoon due to a broken auto-protection device.

The power is back on for a large segment of Birmingham's southwestern corner after an auto-protection device defaulted Thursday afternoon.

As of 1:15 p.m., the DTE Energy outage map reported 562 customers without power, including .

In an email sent home to parents Thursday afternoon, Seaholm officials said they were working with DTE to manage the situation though DTE said they didn't expect the power to be restored before the end of the school day, at 2:45 p.m.

However, classes remained in session, Seaholm officials said, with the school operating on geneator power. District officials were in every building making sure everything is working properly.

Most of the outages were contained in the neighborhoods south of Maple Road and east of Cranbrook, dipping into the Lincoln Hills Golf Course and then east along Lincoln Avenue until Pleasant Street.

Plus, an additional 15 DTE customers were without power on nearby Pleasant Street (which runs north of Lincoln Avenue) due to trouble with a transformer.
