Birmingham Wants Your Input on Transit Issues and More

Residents encouraged to attend several upcoming meetings in April and May.

The city of Birmingham is seeking residsent input on rapid transit options, master plans, complete streets, zoning classifications and other issues at several upcoming meetings.

Residents of Birmingham and surrounding communities are invited to attend the following events:

Oakland Avenue / Park Street / Woodward Sub Area Plan

  • 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24
  • A small sub-area plan is being conducted for the Oakland Avenue/Park Street/Woodward area. Learn about the findings/recommendations and provide your input on the area at the Planning Board’s April 24 meeting.
  • Location: Birmingham City Hall, 151 Martin Street.

Public Open House for Alternative Analysis

  • 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30
  • The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments is conducting the Woodward Avenue Rapid Transit Alternatives Analysis project, which reviews rapid transit options for a 27-mile corridor along Woodward Avenue from Detroit to Pontiac.
  • Bus Rapid Transit has emerged as the preferred modal option for rapid transit along Woodward. Learn more about this option, give your input on potential routes and station locations and more.
  • Location: Manresa Jesuit Retreat House, 1390 Quarton Rd., Bloomfield Hills.

Birmingham Woodward Southern Gateway Plan Design Charrette

  • Share your ideas and help create a Master Plan for the Woodward Corridor between 14 Mile and Lincoln.
  • May 1: Brainstorm land use and urban design concepts from 1-5:30 p.m.; public Visioning Session will be held from 6:30-9 p.m.
  • May 2: Consultants will prepare land use and urban design concepts based on the visioning session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; a presentation on recommended land use and urban design concepts will be presented to the public from 7-9 p.m.
  • Location: Both events held at vacant storefront at 34160 Woodward.

Complete Streets for Woodward Avenue Charrette

  • Plans are underway to redesign and reshape Woodward Avenue into a Complete Street for all users, including making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Exclusively for Birmingham and Bloomfield residents, professional designers will be on site working on concepts for Woodward Avenue during a three-day charrette from May 20 through 22.
  • Details will be announced soon at www.transformwoodward.com.
