Birmingham Resident Catches Leaf Collection in Action

The city's Department of Public Services is searching for more workers to aid with seasonal leaf pickup.

Leaf pickup for Birmingham residents has begun, but have you ever checked out the curbside choreography of the city's workers in action?

Birmingham resident Theron Smith filmed this leaf pickup in front of her home in November 2010, a sight that will become familiar as fall goes on and more leaves begin littering the ground.

Citywide leaf collection began Oct. 3 and occurs every weekend until Nov. 25. . If your street doesn't have a curb, residents are instructed to place their leaves in yard waste bags and leave them out for waste collectors.

Birmingham is searching for a seasonal worker to help with the process. The position will help with seasonal projects for up to six months, including general street maintenance, snow and leaf removal as well as other general duties in the department.

Starting at $8 an hour, applicants need their high school diploma, or equivalent, and a valid Michigan's driving license. Applications are due at the city's no later than Nov. 3.
