Memorial Day: Birmingham Residents Remember Those Who Served

It was a warm and sunny Monday for the residents and veterans who came out to the city's annual Memorial Day service.

After days of rain, the skies cleared and Birmingham residents and veterans alike came out to celebrate those who served at the city's annual Memorial Day service Monday in .

Led by Bruce Miller, master of ceremonies and member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), the service included a Memorial Day Address by Birmingham Mayor Gordon Rinschler, a reading of the Gettsburg Address by SUVCW member Kevin Lindsey and a recognition of area veterans by Major Robert Siewert.

More than one hundred residents filled the southern end of Shain Park, and led by the Birmingham Straw Hat Band, Birmingham residents heard the history of the holiday and sang along to a variety of songs, including America the Beautiful and God Bless America.
