Bike Locks Now Available for Check Out at Baldwin Library

The locks were donated by Birmingham-based developer and bike fanatic, Jeff Surnow.

With a passion for bicycles and Birmingham, area businessman Jeff Surnow is now making it easier to keep your bicycles safe.

Cardholders at can now check out bike locks when they're visiting the library, courtesy of a donation from Surnow.

"I'm so excited that the library is able to offer this service to our patrons," said Library Board member Frank Pisano, who initiated the program alongside Surnow. "People like Jeff Surnow and the are what makes this community so great because they care about the well-being of others and want to make our city a better place."

Surnow, a developer, is the owner of the Birmingham-based Surnow Company and also the organizer behind , which returns this year on Aug. 26.

Bike locks are now available at the library's circulation desk. Bike riders are encouraged to check them out when they visit the library and then return them when their visit is complete.

"We certainly encourage people to walk or bike to the library whenever it is feasible," said Doug Koschik, Baldwin's library director. "We're very grateful for Mr. Surnow's gift, which allows the library to offer people the option of temporarily borrowing locks when they have forgotten theirs."
