Area Celebrities to Visit Birmingham to Sing Out 4 Kids

The charity karaoke event will include a live auction with tickets available to the "American Idol" finals in Los Angeles.

Fans of karaoke will not want to miss this Saturday at , when some of Detroit's biggest celebrities and personalities will come together for .

The event, sponsored by Kroger, will feature karaoke from dozens of Detroit's biggest names, with all proceeds benefiting The Children's Charities Coalition. The coalition comprises four area nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping children in Oakland County: the CARE House, The Community House, Orchards Children's Services and Variety: The Children's Charity.

"This is our third year for Sing Out 4 Kids, and each year just keeps getting better and better," said Jennie Cascio, chairwoman for The Children's Charities Coalition. "We had a sellout last year, and we hope to have a sellout this year as well.

"Our thanks go out to the many celebrities who are contributing their time and talent to raise money for children in our communities," Cascio added.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and attorney Henry Baskin will be masters of ceremonies for the evening, which will feature the following local personalities:

  • Monica Gayle, Fox 2 News anchor
  • Joe Knollenberg, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives
  • Kraig Nienhuis, former Boston Bruin and musician
  • Hal Feder, director of export and growth at the Ford Motor Co.
  • Kathy Broock Ballad, real estate broker
  • Jamie McCarthy, singer/songwriter
  • Zavette Gibson, local recording artist
  • Mary Callaghan Lynch, Michigan Lyric Opera performing artist
  • ReMonda Palmer, local performer

The evening will include a live auction for a pair of tickets to the finals of American Idol, scheduled for the end of May, in Los Angeles. Also up for auction are: an authentic Red Wings jersey, signed by all members of the 1995 Red Wings team; a framed signed photo of golf legend Payne Stewart; a vacation rental for one week in Otsego; and a "beauty party" for 12 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

If you want to try for last-minute tickets, general admission tickets are available for $75 per person; reserved patron seating costs $125 per person. Reserved patron tables are available for $1,000. Dinner will be catered by Plum Market.
