5 Things To Know This Week: Levin, Bentivolio Coming to Town; Spring Break Starts

Here's what you need to know about Birmingham this week.

  1. Legislative Reception Wednesday: Speak with Birmingham's elected officials at the federal, state, county and local level this week at the Townsend Hotel, including U.S. Rep. Sander Levin and U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio. The event starts at 6 p.m..; hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar are included. Tickets are $25 for chamber members and $30 for non-members.
  2. Spring break starts this week: Spring break officially starts Friday for students at Birmingham Public Schools. There is no school that day for students or staff, with classes resuming April 8. For other Birmingham schools, spring break begins:
    • Thursday for Holy Name School students
    • Wednesday for students at the Roeper School
    • Friday for Eton Academy students
    • Thursday for students at Our Shepherd Lutheran School
  3. Dazzling Diamonds Millionaire Party: The Junior League of Birmingham will be hosting a Dazzling Diamonds Millionaire Party this Thursday night at the Got Rocks Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge in the Big Rock Chop House. The group hopes to raise $15,000 for the Junior League's community service projects. Tickets are now $40 per person and can be purchased at www.jbham.org.
  4. Project DayDream open house: Project DayDream, a Birmingham-based youth theatre group, will be hosting an open house at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Congregational Church of Birmingham, located on Cranbrook Road in Bloomfield Hills. The event is open for those looking to join the group's Girls Ensemble.
  5. Online and Media Safety for Kids class: Julie Fisher, executive director for Birmingham's Buliding Better Famlies Through Action, will discuss online and media safety for kids during a presentation at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pembroke Elementary. All parents are welcome.
