11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday Teacups & Toys is a high-end pet boutique for dogs of all sizes – from the tiniest teacup chihuahua to the greatest great Dane.  If you are a dog lover, you will love this store. The owners are Jeff Merriam and Kim Gallagher, a brother and sister who founded the business in December of 2006.  You’ll definitely notice their prize-winning window displays as you walk down Merrill Street toward the Birmingham 8 Theatre.  Each window, created by local artist Annie Kleene, has its own conceptual theme. What will you find at Teacups & Toys?  First of all, puppies!  Currently they have four adorable, healthy puppies for sale, provided by a great Michigan breeder.  (That’s sales associate Mikey Kolb in the picture, holding two of the lively little guys.) You’ll also find all the best products for your dog, starting with highly nutritious and grain-free pet food by Stella & Chewy’s, Orijen, Fromm, and other caring companies.  Jeff Merriam says, “We do a lot of research on the food that comes into the store.” Teacups & Toys also features rain gear and winter wear for your dog, including a down vest that’s warm, comfortable, and stylish.  There are colorful harnesses decorated with Swarovski crystals, along with many other Susan Lanci creations.  You’ll find leashes, collars, bows, and even purse-style travel handbags for smaller dogs. There is a wide assortment of bowls, dishes, crates, crate drapes, blankets and dog bedding, custom-made by hand.  If you visit in a week or two, you can see the newest spring line including delightful dresses, t-shirts, and even cashmere sweaters to keep your pet in style. One more piece of exciting news...  Teacups & Toys will soon expand with an extra 600 square feet, dedicated to the first dog grooming salon in downtown Birmingham.  Jeff says, “Thank you to all the recurring customers who have brought us our success!  Even in a tough economy, we’re managing a little bit of growth.” --- This review was written by Birmingham photographer Ed Morykwas.  If you would like him to publicize your restaurant, business, or event for free, please send him an e-mail: ed@riveroftime.net
