LifeTips: The ICE CREAM of Life

What can we learn from an upset child and a young mom about life? A LOT. It's about the Ice Cream of Life.

I love the Birmingham .

I drink a lot of green tea there and I also listen, sometimes sitting outside, to people talking as they walk by. Sometimes it is business and sometimes it is just fun to watch the world go by. Yesterday I was sitting outside and I saw this mom with a very upset child.

The mom was somewhat sympathetic to the child, but I believe she was nearing her end point with patience. She was trying to calm the child down in front of Starbucks as I was sitting and watching. This young mom was quite wise for her years.

She looked at the little girl, and with kind eyes, said, "I understand that you are upset that we have to go to class this afternoon, but nothing is as bad as it seems. Did you forget the ice cream that you get at the class afterwards? It is waiting on you. Think about the ice cream."

The little girl's eyes dried up so quick you would have thought she was in a wind storm. She looked at her mom and she said, "OH! I forgot about the ice cream!"

So many times in life,we too forget about the ice cream. Things are never as bad as they seem, as there is always some "ice cream" that is waiting somewhere. But you must realize that it is there, and that it may not arrive right then, but it will arrive.

Focus on the good parts of life as you get through the not so good.

The economy may not be great. There may be people laid off. There may be gasoline prices going up. But there is ice cream within all of this that we can be thankful for. And like the young mom, focus on the good things in life we have, not the things that may be stressing us out. That will change in time, and it may be sooner than you think.

Oh ... the child has some wisdom too. As she was walking off with her mom, she said, "I love ice cream. But I don't love the class. Yuk. But that is where the ice cream is."

We all should be so wise.
