Know Resolve, Rainbow Connection & Kid Rock

Rainbow Connection, Know Resolve and Kid Rock

Heck, I had to put The Kid in there to get your attention, but disappointingly a two person, Ocean view cabin on his SOLD OUT "Kid Rock's Chilling the Most Cruise", only made face value at the Rainbow Connections Christmas Festival.

Having said that, it was a great evening with all 10 live auction items making at least retail and, as has become a tradition, nine people (including the founder, Brooks Patterson) each ponied up $500 to make a dream come true for Madison.

So, what do we learn from the two auctions I worked this week end?

People are still giving, the Know Resolve fund raiser was sold out with about 80 more guests than last year, and although the auction was small, the bidding was lively. Likewise, The Rianbow Connection had a larger crowd than last year, all entertained by a wondrful fashion show performed by 10 wish kids, but the normal contingent of Kid Rock fans (he is a big supporter) were largely absent.

Both events featured silent and live auctions, raffles and a 50/50 at the Know Resolve.  The lesson here is that you must cater to all levels of support. Most people going to a fund-raiser expect to be asked for a donation, and you must allow for all pockets, $20 being (pretty much) the minimum so go for $5 raffle tickets and 5 for $20. BTW, do not put stickers on raffle tickets.

Auctions are hard work, and need to be planned months in advance, but it's very hard to reach financial goals without them, and they must not take away form the enjoyment of the evening, they should be part of the fun.

I have couple more events next week end, one includes a suite for the Christmas Eve Lions game (interested? contact me), so I'll report on those in December and after that, discuss other methods of fundraising.

Have a GREAT Thanksgiving.
