Books & Bites at Baldwin, redux

Books & Bites, Good Fun, Great job well done

So, here I go with Blog No. 2, and I must report that last night was an undoubted success. The noise level indicated that a good time being had by all, and I am confident that all financial goals were met and exceeded.

This is neither a news nor social column, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t congratulate the committee in general and specifically Janelle Boyce (auction items) and Rosemary Miketa (Grub Stations) for a job well done.

With 38 drop box raffle stations, guests were spoiled for choice, so the decision is always whether to concentrate on just a few items, or spread it out.

My advice is to decide first how much you want to donate and then see if there is anything you actually want.  Don’t be afraid to put all your tickets in just one or two bowls, the most popular last night being the Townsend Hotel Romantic weekend and Red Wings tickets, although the “Knitting Grandma” attracted a lot of attention and will, I think, be featured in Sally Gerak’s next Downtown Publications column. It was great to see both her and Julie Yolles (Eccentric) covering this inaugural event.

If you are planning a raffle fundraiser, I would advise against that many bowls.    If you don’t have the services of a live auctioneer, convert some of the items to a
silent auction offering.  The test should be, “How many less raffle tickets would we expect to sell if (say)” 5, 10 or 15 of the donations were placed in a different category.

I have 2 small events this weekend, and I’ll report on those on Monday, but going forward I promise to explore non-event related ideas to raise money for non-profits.
