Vote for the Best New Restaurant in Birmingham

The nominations are in, and now we need you to cast your vote for the best new restaurant in Birmingham.

Birmingham is known as a dining destination, and new restaurants are par for the course.

Earlier this summer, we asked Birmingham Patch readers to , and it's official: the nominations are in.

So is it the coffeehouse ? How about ? Or, how about the newly-opened ? We received nominations for all three, and now we're putting your favorites to a vote.

Cast your vote by Aug. 17 and help us decide who's best. Whichever business gets the most votes will be named the 2012 Readers' Choice winner. The winners will be announced Aug. 24.

To vote, you must log in to Patch and you may vote once in each category, so make sure to tell your friends. Also, if you're having trouble seeing the polls, know you have to be logged into the desktop version to view them.

One could question whether a limited-menu coffeeshop that opened 22 months ago in October 2010 is new or a restaurant. But hey, I won't quibble with the people's nominations. Not on Primary Day.

What about Bella Piatta or the Franklin Street Cafe? Why are your nomination lists always so short. Who nominates this stuff anyway? A suggestion. Ask readers for nominations and anybody whose nomination accounts for more than say 10% or more of the votes gets on the ballot. Just sayin'

Dennis: Actually, we did ask for nominations in all of our Readers' Choice categories back in June (http://birmingham.patch.com/articles/nominate-the-best-new-restaurant-in-birmingham). The final ballots were created using those nominations we received. However, votes received via comments will be counted as well (as "write-in" votes, so to speak)!

Luxe has great omelets on their menu for Sunday brunch!! And they'll substitute a small salad for the potatoes. Great ambiance. Love the window seat to see all the Farmer's Market shoppers. You can't imagine all the remarks one young man got when he had his "basil plant" seated along side of him. Better line than "What's you name?"

Luxe is great. Frank Street Cafe is nice too. I'm glad a couple of the other new places were left off the list. Ick.
