Visions for Vacancies: What Should Move into This Empty Rail District Spot?

City leaders talk about reinventing the Rail District to be more friendly to pedestrians. What should happen to this empty spot across from the ice arena?

From new townhomes to the , the Rail District on Birmingham's east side has been reinventing itself as a pedestrian-, retail- and restaurant-friendly neighborhood.

So when we saw this empty office showroom at 2299 E. Lincoln Ave., right across the street from the and , we wondered: What do residents want to see move there? We know parents are dropping off their children at either the ice arena, park or skate park — how should that part of town be reinvented?

According to LoopNet.com, there are three separate spaces available in the building — also known as the Lincoln Conference Center — with a total of 25,000 square feet available, at $10 per square foot. Feel free to be creative: Should the spaces be combined? Should three different businesses move in?
